IPTV Access Restriction Using Parental Control
More and more people are adopting the IPTV model for entertainment in their homes, offices, and businesses. With that, we can easily conclude that IPTV like almost everything else getting hooked to the internet is here to stay and we probably are going to see more of it in the coming years.
IPTV offers limitless options for entertainment with almost no boundary on what a user can access. It is not limited by geographical location neither can one limit what a user can access on the tv once it is hooked to the internet just like your smartphone.
While this is good as it means getting the best content for your home entertainment, it also means less control over what your kids can watch on the tv. Certainly, not all contents on the internet or in your IPTV subscription plan is suitable for all ages – in fact, most IPTV subscriptions plan today comes with adult channels and VODs as well as a number of 18+ rated shows which otherwise should never have gotten in front of your kids.
For most parents, this can be scary and for some outrightly embarrassing when such channels streaming live to the family as a result of wrong judgment.
As almost a rule, most IPTV offers their adult content for almost every subscription plan. There is no default protection and you as a parent will have to make the conscious effort to protect your kids. This post will walk you through a step by step guide on how to block adult content from prying eyes and make them only accessible to you.
What is parental control?
Parental control in its simplest definition is a set of rules or measures put in place by a parent or an adult to prevent the perceived negative impact a content may have on a child or a minor. As a rule, parental control is most times only applied to children under the age of 18.
When it comes to IPTV, parental control involves blocking content that you feel may affect your children negatively. Such content may include porn or movies that may contain explicit or violent scenes, abusive language, and so on.
IPTV providers only provide the service of content to viewers and so to accommodate the market needs of the majority of users, they do not differentiate between content that is meant for adults only or suitable for kids. Some – like us, may label content not suitable for kids as adult channels to make it easier for users to spot but that is as far as it goes. It is most times in the hands of responsible parents to control what they can access with any subscription.
How to set parental control on your IPTV
Most IPTV streaming apps like IPTV pro offer users parental control to help control access to adult content. The parental control feature gives you the ability to set a 4-digit passcode for any channel of your choice.
When you navigate into the app, you can click on the menu option and then turn the parental control feature on.
Once turned on, it will prompt you to type in your 4-digit passcode. Once you confirm this, you can proceed to your channel menu and then add channels that you want to protect and then add them to the parental control. Once a channel has been added to parental control, a user can only access such channels when they type in the correct passcode.
Alternatively, on a PC/Laptop, you can use MyIPTV Player to lock the whole APP to avoid access to the channels.
P.S. On Mag Box and Enigma2 devices, we have already encrypted the adult contents, no further action is required.
Concluding Thoughts
Granted, many IPTV apps do not offer this feature, but there are a few more out there that can help you take care of your child’s development while providing superior entertainment. We’re still one of them!
